Your life here is intended to achieve some outcome for the development of the soul - you! It's not that you have a soul. To clarify things - you are a soul! Your personality and physical body are attributes of the soul and not the other way around.
Part of your responsibility in life is to align your personality and physical body activity with the needs of the soul's purpose. This isn't easy and it is made particularly difficult by suffering a form of amnesia when you are born so that in this life you have no idea what your soul's purpose is intended to be. The plan was made on the other side of the barrier and you can only gain occasional glimpses of your greatness.
